Topics for Self-Help Book — Suggestions Please?
I’m writing my nth Self-Help Guru type Wisdom sharing book and I want to write about topics that people in the 25 to 55 year old category would be willing to pay (about $15) to read about in a trade publication (high quality paperback about 400 pages).
My first three chapters are always the same:
1. Health
2. Wealth
3. Wisdom
For this book I would like to cover 7 additional topics, more or less of the same stature as the top three, at least in the minds of my gentle readers.
What do you suggest?
Feel free to offer one or several chapter topics.
I have degrees in math, philosophy, law, business and advocacy, so I can write on just about most things that Self-Help customers might wish to read about. I have a background in science and as a professional researcher. I have taught business, law, philosophy, mathematics, and communications skills, at the University and Post-Graduate levels.
I think you should narrow down the focus of the book so its more cohesive, and to increase it’s marketability and maintain a higher standard of content. Someone with your knowledge could write a book about applying game theory in day-to-day life, with an emphasis on getting ahead in the workplace and target it to corporate professionals. Another theme could be Eastern philosophy and how it could be applied to achieving work-life balance, minimising stress, contentment, harmonious relationships etc
Failing that, at least reduce the number of topics covered. Besides the topics I mentioned above, you could also write about:
Influencing/getting along with people <---I guess this ties in with both of the themes for books I suggested above
Time management/organisation
Critical thinking/basic logic? "How to avoid being duped by advertising and the media"
Mental health--this could be interpreted several ways
A chapter of inspirational anecdotes, both about yourself and other (perhaps famous) people. Personal struggles you've experienced and how you overcame them
Hope this helps!
