New Sales Job advice!!!?
-Just shook hands for the salary of 12.50/hr + commission
-Leaving 18/hr job
-Feeling like an idiot
-How can I talk my new boss into raising my new base salary without seeming unreliable/unjust?
(I will most likely be engaging in ADDITIONAL responsibilities such as product development, developing corporate marketing materials, creating a sales pitch/outline, and generating new leads -all of which were not really discussed. I also have tons of complementary skills and am just finishing up a Communications BA)
I guess my main question is — why did you take the job? Was it the potential financial upside? The additional responsibility? The heat of the moment? You hated the old job?
The new job sounds more exciting — if you can handle it financially why not give it a try? The long and short of it is not to worry. When you’re out of college you’ll have a lot more opportunities. An 18/hr or 12/hr a job now won’t mean anything 10 years from now. If you’re good at sales and end up at the right company/industry you might be making 10x that.
